"You say that you love rain, but you open your umbrella when it rains. You say that you love the sun, but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines. You say that you love the wind, but you close your windows when wind blows. This is why I am afraid when you say that you love me too."

yesterday i officially finished my last ever FALL semester of my undergraduate career! …which is totally awesome because fall semesters have never been kind to me- this semester included.

if there’s a few things i learned this semester it’s this:

  1. if you want people to be involved in something, you gotta be involved with them. involvement, interaction and communication matters. be involved.
  2. people can see your success [and failure]; however, people don’t see the struggle, emotions and sacrifices that come with it.
  3. like a dropped soda bottle, feelings will get messy when dropped and bottled. you already know what happens, you know things are going to explode, you anticipate it, you feel it, but you will never know how it will truly feel or how you will react to it until explodes in front of your face.
  4. no matter how hard you try, you can never force a connection.
  5. always back up your phone -__-
  6. the best way to appreciate something is to be without it for a while. this applies to people too. and… if you didn’t know this already, i truly appreciate you.
  7. everyone longs for companionship. everyone.
  8. people like to wear masks. and some of those people like to choose a pretty mask that disguises their ugly heart. but i can see right through you. you’re not fooling anyone. looks can be very deceiving. never assume.
  9. make use of that CR/NC if you know you’re going to pass a class that you really don’t give a shit about.
  10. laughter is medicine. remember to laugh. spend time with people who make you laugh effortlessly, those are one of the best kind of laughs.

Over 100 hours of community service completed in one year. (Fall 2010 and Spring 2011)
The way I see it:Why not go above and beyond the minimum requirements? If you know you’re just gonna be sitting at home doing nothing or have a few hours to spare, you might as well give those 2 hours back to the community. I encourage everyone to try to get the presidential award for many reasons. You never know who you’ll meet at a service project or the friendships that can be easily created because of one. Like if I never went to that service project would I ever been able to kick it off with so and so? We all know that fellowships, family events help create bonds with members and pledges in the fraternity, but even service projects open doors to meet new friends or people that you thought you’d never be friends with as well. Make the opportunity count. One of the best part about giving back is when you can see you’re making an impact or that people appreciate it. Even though this award was given a semester late, the value remains the same. Thank you Darshika, Alyssa and Kristen for remembering to put me on the list. It’s nice to be acknowledge for all the hard work you put into something.

disconnected.

on sunday, i went on a hike trail that my co took me on last summer.

i haven’t been on that trail since then and i came back because i needed a place to clear my mind.

she told me she goes here to relieve her stress and because of it’s scenery.

i needed to get away for a little. i needed to have some time to myself and i guess walk off my troubles… but the whole time, i had my headphones on blast, constantly checking on my phone and texting while i was on the trail…  i was doing the exact opposite of what i wanted to do. i was at a peaceful place but everything seemed so loud and busy because of all the distractions i brought onto myself.

as i was about to reach my favorite spot of the trail, my phone froze, forcing me to take my headphones out and remember the exact reason why i came here, to clear my mind… not to distract myself. whenever my phone freezes, it can take up to 5min to sometimes even an hour to restart again -___- it irritated me that my phone froze because i felt disconnected. i couldn’t get online, text, or listen to music but it was good thing. i needed to be disconnected.

it was like a sign from mother nature… or from someone upstairs. i sat at my favorite spot of the trail for a while, overlooking the water and the horizons, listening to the waves, enjoying the view and just forgetting about the small things. for a moment, my mind was finally clear, i had no distractions.

by the time i got back to my car, my phone finally turned back on and i came back to reality with a bunch of notifications; e-mails, texts, and other unnecessary things i didn’t want to deal with… but had to. for a moment, it was good to be disconnected from the world.

thank you co for sharing your place with me. next time i go back, i’ll make sure i won’t bring any distractions to such a peaceful place.
